Though more uneven than Swiming Pool Q's self-titled predecessor, this is still an enjoyable listen. A combination of jangle pop hooks with an edge, the songs have an angular quality akin at times to fellow '80s band Guadalcanal Diary. There are also slight echoes of the B-52's in "She's Lookin' Real Good (When She's Lookin')," but the band's overall sound is their own. Most of the songs are catchy enough for mainstream popularity, but the Q's don't shy away from the offbeat with songs like the sinister "Corruption" and freaky "Fat Tractor" (which also appeared on their debut The Deep End). Boston would leave the band after this album, though would design the cover for their next release.
