VARIOUS - SAD CHRISTMAS (2018)
Christmas 2018 is a sad one, my beloved Motherhas passed away last November.

You know that PPC wasn't really active during the past two years and a half, but i wanted to take care of my Mother.

Even though she never was a music fan,  I will always remember the day when my Mother once told me "You should try to listen to the Beatles" at the time of "Abbey Road", and i will always remember she liked more Lennon than McCartney.

This compilation is dedicated to my Mother.
 
Sad Christmas is available in both lossy and lossless formats. All the songs included on this collection were compiled from CD's or official digital downloads.

An Updated Guide To The 200 Greatest Power Pop Albums 1970-2017
(an unauthorized best of)
John Borack wrote his first look at all things power pop, Shake Some Action in 2008, and it struck a chord, selling out 4 reprints. Well, it’s ten years down the road, and Borack has updated his debut work with Shake Some Action 2.0: 200 Greatest Power Pop Albums 1970-2017 – and it’s even more complete than before! At over 400 pages, fans of jangly guitars, skinny ties and all things pop will find so much to love here.

Shake Some Action 2.0 will be laid out in similar fashion to a Billboard chart: albums have slid up or down the chart, with new efforts from 2008-2017 replacing those that have fallen out of the top 200.

Those familiar with the early days of PPC will remember the popular series "The Ultimate Power Pop Guide" (a.k.a The Unauthorized best of the John M. Borack list) based upon the first book "Shake Some Action". So ten years later, i have thought it would be nice to make an update to the guide. 

Once again, i'm gonna pick one song from each album selected by John Borack, except this time i'm gonna start by the end of the list going to the top of the top... if everything goes well.

Special note: This compilation comes complete with the usual full set of artwork suitable for jewel case CD. It is now available in lossy and lossless formats.

VOLUME 7
Shake Some Action 2.0 will be laid out in similar fashion to a Billboard chart: albums have slid up or down the chart, with new efforts from 2008-2017 replacing those that have fallen out of the top 200.

Here's the second part (logically titled "Volume 7") of the SSA 2.0 collection. Eleven albums weren't part of the first SSA generation. Two of them "Sorrows' Teenage Heartbreak" and "The Jags' Evening Standards" have not been reissued in CD format even though all the Jags songs are available on their "Best Of". The "Sorrows' Teenage Heartbreak" will never be reissued on CD because it seems the original masters have been destroyed or lost.

Special note: This compilation comes complete with the usual full set of artwork suitable for jewel case CD. It is now available in lossy and lossless formats.

Two albums have never been reissued on CD: The Pinkees and Artful Dodger (even though a more or less official/unofficial CD edition exists).

Fourth part (logically titled "Volume 5") of the SSA 2.0 collection. Fourteen albums weren't part of the first SSA generation, but thirteen new bands. The expanded Mice "For Almost Ever Scooter" is replaced by the proper album "Scooter", the first Jeffrey Foskett album being replaced by "Cool & Gone (Gone, Gone)"  Two albums are not available in CD format: The Mice's Scooter has never been reissued as a standalone CD and the full-length (10 songs) Kurt Baker album was only available on vinyl in the Netherlands (cut to a six-track CDEP in the USA).

"Volume 4" is the fifth part of the SSA 2.0 collection. A part with really little differences with the original SSA. Five new albums in the list, five new bands. The Three O'Clock 2-fer is replaced by the proper album "Arrive Without Travelling". Some big names jump in the list,the mighty Silver Sun, Van Duren, the fabulous Paley Brothers. but also The Stanleys and ex-Rooney Taylor Locke. Only three albums are not available in CD format (or any download): The Secrets*, Hawks and The Pop.

"Volume 3" is the sith part of the SSA 2.0 collection, two more to go. Some interesting differences with the original SSA. Four new bands jump in the list. Len Price 3,  The Red Button, The Madd and Starbelly. So, four new bands but seven new albums because The Searchers"Sire Sessions" CD is replaced by the second Sire Album "Love's Melodies", the Squire"Singles Album" instead of "Big Smashes", and the Windbreakers"Best Of" is replaced by their penultimate album "At Home with Bobby & Tim". Four albums Yankee Rose, The Keys, The Cryers, Michael Guthrie Bandare not available in CD format but the Michael Guthrie is available as an official download.

"Volume 2" is the penultimate part of the SSA 2.0 collection. No new bands, but a few albums change. The Rooks'eponymous albumreplaces  "Encore Echoes"(the Not Lame Anthology). The Best Of Nick Lowe is replaced by his first solo album "Jesus Of Cool" also known in the USA as Pure Pop For Now People. The first and rare Innocents album "Here We Come" replaces the as well rare double CD anthology "No Hit Wonder From Down Under". The Heats' first album "Have An Idea" replaces the posthumous album "Smoke". Only the Innocents LP is not available in CD format, the Shivvers is available on vinyl, but also on stream music.

VOLUME 1
"Volume 1" is the final step to Power Pop Heaven
(as featured in the SSA 2.0 collection)

20/20 is the new #1
(previously #5 with the 2-fer 20/20-Look Out!))

As John Borack vowed that the new SSA version would contain no 2-fers, there are few changes here.

Big Star two-fer which was previously #2 has now two separarate entries at number 3: "#1 Record& Radio City", making a toss-up.  The first Spongetones album "Beat Music" replaces "Beat & Torn" which added the "Torn Apart" mini album. The two-fer Shoes CD "Present Tense/Tongue Twister" is replaced by their first major release "Present Tense". The eponymous Plimsouls album replaces the "Plimsouls...Plus" CD (hence dropping the "Zero Hour" mini-album). The only real change is, the first Material Issue with its legendary title "International Pop Overthrow" which logically replaces "Freak City Soundtrack". All the albums are available in CD format or can be officially downloaded.

THE ULTIMATE POWER POP GUIDE (2008) (re-ups)

As some of you may have noticed, all the UPPG links were down. The whole collection has been re-upped and will be only available in FLAC (the lossless links are on GD).

In 2008, John Borack and Not Lame published "Shake Some Action - The Ultimate Power Pop Guide". According to the list of the Top 200 of the best Power Pop albums, i made nine (unauthorized) compilations (eight + the tributes one, not included here). Click on the links below to read all the details about this popular collection.
 
Ten years later, John Borack published his SSA 2.0 book and i recently made the  same kind of work that i made 10 years ago with this collection. The re-up will allow to some of you to get the compilations for the first time or to have a backup if you'd ever lost them over the years. It will be an opportunity to compare both lists and so post comments here.

TRIBUTES OR NOT TRIBUTES VOL. 12 (2019)
The first "Tributes or not Tributes" was released in 2006, Over the years, the collections were regularly posted on PPC. More than 600 covers have been shared on PPC. With the 12th volume of "Tributes or Not Tributes", it is time to enjoy the roots of the music we love... and just like Johnny Ramone used to say:

"Go back and learn the history. Go back to the beginning of rock 'n'roll and listen to everything that went down".

Once again, it is available in lossy and lossless formats with the usual set of custom artwork, including full details of the bands involved.
