BACK TO THE TRIBUTES
"Tributes or not Tributes Vol 9 (1974-1984)"
It was 40 years ago, two years before i was able to listen to "Blitkrieg Bop"  while walking in a record store on a Saturday afternoon. The next few years would become the best ones with Bomp!, the first Stiff singles and all that stuff i've shared with you on PPC since 2007.

This is the reason why i've made a new volume of "Tributes or not Tributes" spanning ten years between 1974 and 1984.

This is a great opportunity to remember what Johnny Ramone once said,
"Go back and learn the history. Go back to the beginning of rock 'n'roll and listen to everything that went down".

Trust me all the bands featured knew a lot about history.
The collection is available in both formats (lossy and lossless)
with the usual set of artwork (booklet + inner + inlay + tray)

lossy: CD1 (188mb) + CD2 (175mb)
lossless: CD1 (553mb) + CD2 (535mb) (CDDA auCDtect included)

Click on pix below for details of the bands involved

Previous collections are still available.

2008 - The Return Of Tributes or not Tributes (500.000 Blog Fans Can't Be Wrong)
2013 - Tributes no Not Tributes Vol. 8 (Never Mind The Originals)

AIRWAVES - NEW DAY (1978)
After Love Sculpture split in 1970 John David concentrated on studio and session work, songwriting and engineering. In 1978 Airwaves recorded their first album "New Day", a single "You Are The New Day" was also released. The single, performed accapella, never reached the charts, but was played on radio at the time. A choral version was later recorded by the King's Singers.

As with the second album "Next Stop" (1979, still available on PPC), the 10cc ("Let Me In"), Beatles (Klaatu?), Brian Wilson ("So Hard Living Without You") influences are here. and the real gem is the Edmunds-like "Nobody Is".

And finally, the only bad news about the album is the "prog-like" artwork

DUCKS DELUXE - DUCKS DELUXE (1974, US Edition)
In 1973 the band signed to RCA and released their first single, "Coast To Coast", written by Sean Tyla and Nick Garvey, though Tyla is not credited on the track, because he was trying to untangle himself from a previous publishing deal. They also appeared in BBC TV Play for Today called Blooming Youth. Their eponymous debut album Ducks Deluxe was released in early 1974, and "captures something of the fire and excitement that the Ducks' live act generated".

This is the US LP edition which omits "I Got You" and has a totally different track order.from the UK release.

BIZARROS / RUBBER CITY REBELS  - FROM AKRON (1977)
Hailing from Afrom, the Rubber City Rebels delivered more than two decades of  blazing guitar and funny lyrics that share a sensibility with the first Dictators album. The Rebels' side of "From Akron", a local self-release shared 50-50 with the Bizarros, contains such ghastly/funny send-ups as "Brain Job" the infanticide-discouraging "Child Eaters".

Playing serious, intense, sometimes hypnotic rock with poetically inclined verbiage and pre-Gang of Four jabbing guitars, Bizarros music is strong and affecting. Their half of From Akron is pretty raw.

Lossy (ZS): 320 lame 3.98 (97 mb)
Lossless (NK): FLAC 8 (239 mb)

Anyway, all the previous PPC summer compilations are no more available, but you can give a look at them and dream of a bright future even though you've got to wear shades.

RAIDERS OF THE LOST HOOK (re-up) (2008-2010)
In 1978, Greg Shaw wrote in the Power Pop special issue of Bomp: "Any way you look at it, Power Pop began with the Who (...and the Easybeats...). Their approach to songwriting was solidly pop - every song was short, catchy, hook-filled, built on bright, uplifting major chords, and they never shied away from those all-important "la la la's".

These compilations were assembled between 2008 and 2010, four volumes were posted on PPC and are now available again due to some requests for those long lost gems.
